Not all law enforcers and county officials follow the rules of the road in Arizona. According to AZ Family, a former Maricopa County detention officer was sentenced to 10.5 years in prison on Tuesday after pleading guilty to counts of manslaughter and endangerment.
The defendant, Adrian Salazar Guzman, had been accused of killing 27-year-old Alisha Marie Trejo on October 16. Trejo was on her motorcycle at a stop sign in Goodyear, when Guzman apparently hit her from behind with his vehicle. Goodyear police said that Guzman had told authorities after the fatal crash that he had been drinking throughout the day and that he had left a bar just one half hour before the crash.
Chemical tests showed that the detention officer had a blood-alcohol content level of .225 percent on the evening of the accident, which is almost three times the legal limit in Arizona of .08 percent.
Guzman had worked with the Maricopa County Sheriff's Office for six years before the fatal accident. At Tuesday's sentencing hearing, ABC News reported that the former officer apologized to the victim's family for his actions.
In addition to the 10.5 year prison sentence, the defendant was also sentenced to three years probation as part of a plea deal. A typical misdemeanor DUI conviction could result in only a couple days in jail time, but when there are injuries or deaths involved, the impaired driver will face more severe criminal charges and enhanced penalties.

Permalink Reply by HD.Caravan Hookahs on June 2, 2011 at 11:55pm PHOENIX - A 5-year-old girl faced her mother’s killer Tuesday, during an emotional hearing in Phoenix.
Adrian Guzman was sentenced to 10.5 years in prison plus three years probation as part of a plea deal in the death of a young Maricopa County Sheriff's Office detention officer.
“I wish my mommy was here,” Corvette Trejo told the courtroom.
Trejo's father says his young daughter's life will never be the same.
“She’ll forget a majority of our memories together,” cried Corvette’s father, Chris Trejo. “She’s already said she can’t remember her mom’s voice.”
Police tell ABC15 Adrian Guzman was driving drunk when he rear-ended a motorcycle driven by Corvette’s parents, Alisha and Chris Trejo, in October 2010.
“They were happy. They had the happily-ever after. They’ve known each other since they were freshmen in high school,” Mary Trejo, Alisha’s mother-in-law, said as tears rolled down her face.
The couple were high school sweethears and had big plans.
Alisha was attending Glendale in hopes of getting a in abnormal .
Chris, serving in the military, had just returned from Iraq for three days when the crash happened.
“You took Corvette’s mother and you damn near took her father and my son along with her,” Mary Trejo told Guzman.
The couple’s seven-year anniversary would have been in just four days.
“For Mother’s Day, of course, we went to the memorial," said Mary. “But how do you say Happy Mother’s Day to a mother who’s been taken away from her daughter?”
“Keep in your mind always, you just took the life of a young woman,” Alisha's father-in-law, Miguel Trejo said to Guzman.
Alisha was disfigured in the accident so badly, the family asked for a closed casket at her funeral.
“I hope the images burn in his brain and I hope the guilt and remorse overtake him and he takes his own life,” said Miguel.
“I am sorry,” said Adrian Guzman. “And every day for the rest of my life I will have that in my head.”
But for one little girl, it’s an image she may never forget.
“That guy,” Chris said to his daughter as he pointed to Guzman, “that’s the drunk driver.”

Im sure that many of us here on HD will agree that this is a relief, whether we knew Alisha in person or just heard about the incident over the community, not to mention her family.
